PCT pockets Acosta Cup football title

THE Philippine College of Technology (PCT) emerged champion in the 14th Acosta Cup Women's Football Tournament held at the Tionko field last Sunday, November 19.

Mariz Magdolot knocked in two goals while Annalou Arrogrante added one to tow the Alvic Troyo-coached PCT over the veteran-laden D' Davao Survivors, 3-0, in the championship match that was witnessed by Davao City Councilor Mabel Sunga-Acosta and her husband captain Rey Acosta and fellow Councilor Bai Halila Sudagar.

The feat serves as a huge comeback for PCT who placed second last year after losing to Davao Aguilas in the 13th edition of the tournament designed for women.

“We believe that this year is our time,” Troyo said in a phone interview with Sun.Star Davao yesterday.

The hard and constant training, according to Troyo, paved the way for the team to win titles.

“Happy kami kasi nanalo kami dito (Acosta Cup) tapos nanalo din kami sa Dcaa (Davao City Athletic Association) at sa iba pang mga competitions,” he said as PCT also dethroned the reigning champion Ateneo de Davao University (Addu) in the said city meet that serves a qualifier for the Davao Regional Athletic Association (Davraa) Meet set in February next year.

But Troyo said the feat would not be possible without the determination and dedication of his players.

PCT was composed of Magdolot, Arrogante, E-vonne Boyles, V-vone Boyles, July Bunac, June Mae Bunac, Kyra Caballero, Renabel Camanyan, Rheza Angelou Caminade, Jikai Cantila, Ferry Eyo, Jessa Felizardo, Aiza Gravador, Jilian Lamben, Marie Magdolot, Pamela Faye Reyes, Shelby Sanchez, Joyce Semacio and Bonna Vanguard.

Meanwhile, Sikat Alab routed Soya Football Club, 5-1, in the battle for third.

The annual bootfest was organized in cooperation with the Davao South Regional Football Association (DRFA), CMO, Ulticon Builders, Inc., Norminring Motorbikes, St. John Paul II College of Davao, Anflocor, Lapanday Foods, Vibrant Helicopters Agricultural Corporation, SBF Philippines Drilling Resources Corporation, Southern Tourist Inn, Yellow Fin, Kudos Trucking Corporation, Nature's Spring, Jollibee, EDL Pharmaceutical Labs, Inc. and Marina Tuna.
