THERE is no magic spell or secret in doing extraordinary things, all it requires are passion and purpose.

At least, that was an impression made by Jemimah Keziah Morales, a Dabawenya, 21-year-old Ballet Dancer, dance teacher, and choreographer, in an interview with SunStar Davao. Her recent achievement in the field of dancing has once again proven that age should not be an excuse for everyone not to give their best shot.

“Dancing is not just a hobby. It is a passion and it comes with a purpose,” Morales shared.

After graduating from the University of the Philippines in Mindanao just last June with a degree in BA Communication Arts, Morales made her way to the United States together with the seven contingents from Davao City for the World Championship for Performing Arts (WCOPA) competition.

The competition was like the counterpart of the world sports Olympics in the field of performing arts where the best of the best among the performing artists all over the world gathered to compete in different categories.

Describing herself as a go-getter, Morales has raised the banner of the country when she bagged a silver medal for classical ballet and a gold medal together with her co-performer for a production during the WCOPA which was held last July 8 to July 16.

It was the first time she joined a competition as a performer as she was used to choreograph dancers locally for competitions and other purposes.

Admittedly, Morales shared though she started her journey to dancing when she was just seven years old, her interest and passion in dancing only boosted when she reached 13 when a former dance teacher urged her to go back to ballet dancing after she had stopped doing it for five years.

“When I go back to ballet, I didn’t know if I liked it, I didn’t know if I fell in love with it but I just did it,” Morales said.

As early as 16 years old, Morales had become a dance teacher where she gets a chance to teach kids and impart what she learned to them.

She had also become one of the teachers and artists just last year at MuzikSkool in Davao City, a school that teaches about dancing, singing, and painting among others.

“Being a dancer came to me as a necessity because I have to learn it to be able to teach others about it,” Morales shared.

Apart from handling dance class, she had also made several dance concerts for a cause as a way of giving back to others and touching other’s lives.

“I dance because it is who I am and I used dance as more than a hobby. It goes beyond that. It is nice to be able to use your talent to touch the world,” she said.

During her 18th birthday, she had done a remarkable thing wherein she chose to celebrate it by having a dance concert for a cause to raise funds to help buy school supplies for the children in a Badjao community whose grade school class opened that year.

Having her own share of ups and downs, Morales said t to deal with her down moments, she just count her blessings and believes that loses only mean that something bigger is in store for her.
