Persons suffering from depression must seek help

THE Davao City Health office called on those feeling depressed and entertaining suicide to seek professional help.

City Health Officer Josephine Villafuerte raised the call following the suicide of 20-year-old Rheyn Mark S. Tubato, an out-of-school youth and resident of Kilometro 9, Sto. Niño, Riverside, Barangay Sasa, who jumped from the fifth floor of a mall here.

It was learned that the victim was apparently depressed after his father fell sick after her wife, Tubato's mother, left him.

Villafuerte said it is important for someone going through depression to have someone to talk to, especially a psychologist.

"Kailangan natin na may mapagsabihan tayo sa ating mga problema, ipalabas natin yan sa mapagkatiwalaan tao, o ang mas mainam d'yan lalapit tayo sa isang psychologist," she said.

Those going through depression can also seek help from social workers of the City Social Services and Development Office (Cssdo).

"Dapat ang mga tao na may ganitong sitwasyon na matulungan sila, at alamin kung ano ang dinadala nilang problema para hindi hahantong sa pag-suicide," Villafuerte said.

Tubato is the fourth victim who jumped from the fifth floor, but one 15-year-old survived after she got entangled in a net last November 4, 2015. (Jeepy P. Compio)
