Sunnexdesk

FOLLOWING a successful hosting last year in Bacolod City, the Piaya Network Entertainment Corporation 2018 International Chess Tournament will be held in Metro Manila on October 22 to 30.

Last year’s Negros International Open Chess Championship in Bacolod City gathered seven grandmasters with five from overseas, namely eventual champion English GM Nigel Short, Karen Grigoryan from Armenia, Vietnam’s Tuan Minh Tran and GM Duc Hua Nguyen, India’s Srinath Narayanan, and Filipinos Rogelio Antonio Jr. and Darwin Laylo.

Also competing were dozens of National Masters and Negros Occidental top woodpushers.

One of the main reasons of moving the international tournament to Manila is budget consideration of event sponsors. (HGD)
