Police think arson behind school fire

SIX classrooms were damaged by fire in Barangay Liong, Dumanjug yesterday morning.

Senior Insp. Jose Rovic Villarin, the town police chief, said they are looking at arson.

He said that two classrooms in the Dumanjug National High School and four classrooms in the Dumanjug Central School were damaged.

Residents helped put out the fire.

According to the fire investigation, the fire started in the high school, possibly from a pile of books placed atop a folding bed.

Later, residents saw the classrooms' curtains on fire.

Villarin told TV Patrol that there is reason to think that the incident was deliberate because a chair inside the high school's agriculture room also caught fire last May 28.

A chair will not easily catch fire, said Villarin.

The police think that the person behind the fires is related to the suspect police arrested last April for stealing three computers from the two schools.

Sun.Star Cebu tried to call the fire station for an estimate of the damage but no one answered its landline.

The Dumanjug Police Station, said PO3 Gypsy Miro, is yet to receive an official report from the fire station.
