BACOLOD City Police Office (BCPO) will transport the remains of former City Police director and retired general Amado Marquez Jr. at 6 a.m. Monday to his hometown in Canala-on City, Negros Oriental.
BCPO Director Celestino Guara Marquez’s body lied at BCPO until 6 p.m. Sunday night.
Guara, who will lead the convoy, said Marquez’s death is a big loss to his family and the PNPA Alumni.
“He is a big brother to us and Canla-on City lost their chance to free the people from the bandits of traditional politics,” said Guara.
Marquez, 57, who served as BCPO director from 1999 to 2002, died of colon cancer last Saturday, around 7 a.m., at Dr. Pablo O. Torre Memorial Hospital where he was confined for 10 days.
He left his wife Evangeline and their two sons, Amado Marquez III and Amado Marquez IV.
Marquez’s death left Canla-on City reelectionist Mayor Judith Cardenas with only one opponent.
Marquez was a mayoralty candidate of the city under the Liberal Party after he was invited to join in the political arena by Representative Josie Limkaichong.
Marquez, also a bemedalled police officer and a graduate of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) retired as head of the Regional Investigation and Intelligence Unit of the Philippine National Police-Eastern Visayas (PNP-8).
Marquez burial is scheduled on March 29 in Canlaon City. (TED)
