THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) released Monday guidelines to all political parties and candidates regarding the common poster area in the city for campaign materials.

The Comelec has designated seven areas, mostly portions of the district public plazas, as the poster area for all candidates for the first automated elections.

However, acting city Comelec officer G. Bert Arbis said the candidates can only use and avail the areas for their posters and other campaign materials covering the campaign period starting February 9, 2010 for national candidates and March 26, 2010 for the local candidates.

Arbis also warned local candidates not to use the area earlier than the official campaign period.

Identified common poster areas are: corner Osmeña and Rizal streets as portion of Arevalo Plaza; portion of Molo Plaza fronting Consing residence and Caltex gasoline station; corner Oñate and Q. Abeto streets as portion of the Mandurriao Plaza; Rizal street fronting Andok’s as a portion of Jaro Plaza; Burgos Mabini street fronting La Paz Maternity Clinic as a portion of La Paz Plaza; Lapuz National High School at Abanilla street; and portion of Plaza Libertad fronting PNB JM Basa Street at the city proper.
