Prominent families involved in the illegal drug trade

Von De Leon Maungca

MANDAUE City Mayor Gabriel Luis Quisumbing received information that there are prominent families in the city who are involved in illegal drugs.

He learned about the matter after meeting with the officials of several law enforcement agencies yesterday.

“It is really sad to note how many people from prominent families in Mandaue are involved in drugs,” reads the mayor’s post on Facebook.

Senior Supt. Roberto Alanas, director of Mandaue City Police Office, said they are presently gathering information and validating the matter.

Alanas said they will forward the data they will get to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency for appropriate action.

This, since the police can’t conduct any operation against illegal drugs after President Rodrigo Duterte indefinitely suspended Oplan Tokhang.

Meanwhile, a total of 46 field training policemen (FTP) were assigned in several police stations in Mandaue.

Alanas said the FTPs will be a big help in maintaining the peace and order in the city since their deployment will augment police’s visibility.

The police official, however, said that the FTPs are not allowed to hold firearms and wear police badges.

But they are authorized to arrest suspects, he added.
