FOLLOWING the reported plot to kill President Rodrigo Duterte, Malacañang on Friday said the Presidential Security Group has already heightened the security measures to ensure his safety.

“Although the President is receiving assassination threats everyday, the Presidential Security Group is closely monitoring it,” Andanar said in a radio interview.

Andanar made the statement following the revelation of Wilford Palma, a member of gun smuggling group arrested by the police, that one of their clients ordered gun parts which were supposed to be used to kill the President.

Andanar said the government will take “extraordinary steps” to make sure that the President will be free from any danger.

“We will not ignore these death threats against the President. We will take extraordinary steps to ensure the security of the President,” he said.

Andanar also urged the public to become Duterte’s “neighborhood watch.”

“We should serve as neighborhood watch. Perhaps, we can also help the police force because the number of the police are not enough compared to the number of our population, which ranges to 104 million,” he said.

On Thursday, Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella said that Duterte is “concerned but not worried” about the possible assassination attempt against him.

“He eats it (death threat) for breakfast, you know. He eats threats for breakfast. Meaning to say, it’s not something new to him,” Abella said. (Sunnex)
