PHILIPPINE Weightlifting Association (PWA) president Monico Puentevella said he is eyeing to bring weightlifting in Bacolod City when the Philippines hosts the 2019 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.

In 2005, Bacolod also co-hosted various events like weightlifting, men’s volleyball, beach volleyball, men’s football and boxing.

Puentevella said he will seek the approval of Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano, designated chairman of the organizing committee of the 30th Southeast Asian Games.

He reiterated that they are expecting more potential weightlifters joining the pool this year.

“We need more Hidilyn Diaz in this event. I’m bringing around 10 lifters to China to undergo long-term training as part of their preparation for the upcoming Asian Games in Indonesia this year and the Youth Olympic Games in Argentina,” Puentevella said.

Along with Diaz are promising talents Kristhel Macrohon, Eileen Anne Ando, and Dessa de los Santos. (HGD)
