Rains to trigger floods, slides

Sunnexdesk

MINDANAO will most likely experience occasional heavy rains Tuesday, June 30, that may trigger flashfloods and landslides in some areas, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

In its 5 p.m. Monday advisory, Pagasa indicated this may be partially due to the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) across Mindanao.

Light to moderate rain and thunderstorms may prevail over Palawan and Visayas, while Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon may have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated thunderstorms.

Pagasa also said that light to moderate winds from the southwest may prevail over the whole archipelago, with slight to moderate seas.

Office of the Civil Defense in Davao Region director Rebecca Lopez said the agency has been conducting search and rescue program, and community-based risk assessment training to prepare the region in case of any disaster. (ICT)
