Rebels attack Army outpost

MEMBERS of the New People's Army (NPA) fired at a detachment of the Philippine Army in Monkayo, Compostela Valley, Friday afternoon. No casualties were reported.

From the report of the Compostela Valley Provincial Police Office, around 50 armed men fired at the Cliffhanger Detachment of the 25th Infantry Battalion at Sitio Depot in Barangay Upper Ulip, Monkayo at around 4:30 p.m.

The soldiers returned fire resulting to several minutes of firefight, which forced the rebels to retreat towards the general direction of Surigao del Sur.

The rebels are believed to be from the Front Committee 20 under one Kumander Daryl. (Marvin Pineda)
