Riding-in-tandem suspect shot dead; companion hurt

John Paul Villanueva

A NOTORIOUS “riding-in-tandem” suspect died while his companion was injured after they were shot by an unidentified man at North Capitol Road, Barangay 9, Bacolod City on Monday.

Police identified the fatality as Carmelo Moncado, and his injured companion as Rosjohn Jimenez, 27, both residents of Purok Pugad Baboy, Barangay Zone 4, Talisay City.

Chief Inspector Benedicto Villarias Jr., head of Police Station 2, said Jimenez snatched the bag of a 22-year-old employee of a fastfood chain along Lacson Street while the victim was walking at around 11:40 p.m.

Jimenez then rode the motorcycle driven by Moncado, but both suspects were chased by an unidentified man who fired at them causing Moncado to die on the spot.

Villarias said Jimenez got away and went to a hospital in Talisay City to seek treatment for an injury, but he was arrested by police at 4 a.m. Tuesday.

He added that the suspects are known notorious robbers in Talisay and are also responsible for the series of riding-in-tandem incidents in Bacolod.

They victimized two Korean nationals, carting away P199,000 worth of their personal belongings a few weeks ago.

Jimenez is being guarded by police in a hospital and will be facing robbery hold-up charges.

Police are still investigating the incident that can lead to the identity of the assailant.
