Roach eyes KO win vs. tough Clottey

Trina Louise Rivera, USJ-R intern

DESPITE facing a foe who has never been knocked out in his 14-year-career, Freddie Roach is confident Manny Pacquiao will stop Joshua Clottey on March. 13 Clottey has never been stopped in his entire career. He has only lost thrice: against Miguel Cotto via a close split decision, against Antonio Margarito; and by unanimous decision and Carlos Baldomir via disqualification.

Roach believes that Clottey (35-3, 20 KOs), who is known to have superb defense, tends to protect his head and leaves his body open, which he believes would be the key to Pacquiao’s (50-3-2, 38KOs) offense in orchestrating another knockout victory.

“I think we’re going to get him out in 12 easily, but he’s definitely a tough guy to knock out though. That’s our goal, to knock him out and be one of the first ones to do that.

I think if we break him down to the body, we can definitely expose the head if we go to the body early in the fight,” he said.
