ST. Dominic Savio and Bro. Simon Srugi won their semifinal matches in the Don Bosco @ 200 Alumni Basketball Tournament over the weekend at the Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) Arena to set up a finals clash.

Savio crushed Don Aloïs Mertens, 77-66, thanks to John Velasco’s 32 points.

Savio trailed six points early on, 16-10, after a quarter of action. But Savio contained Mertens and outscored them, 26-7, to lead at halftime, 36-23. From then on, Savio never surrendered the lead despite a fourth quarter push by Mertens.

James Otida added 18 for Savio, while Paulo Lumapas and Arbinson Gabison chipped in 14 and 11, respectively.

Celso Colegado’s 42-point performance wasn’t enough to knock out Savio. Kim-Kim Rebosura added 12 for Mertens.

On the other hand, Srugi beat St. Louis Orione, 92-87. Both teams were as equally talented but Srugi did a little more better.

Srugi had six players in double figures led by Dennis Christopher Morales with 24. Harold Castro had 18, Mark Ignatius Loyola and Chino Noel scored 14 each.
