SC rejects petition questioning jurisdiction of Marcos burial case

THE Supreme Court (SC) has denied a petition that questioned its authority to allow the burial of the late president Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.

In the SC's session on Tuesday, SC spokesperson Theodore Te said the high court denied outright the petition dated November 22 filed by petitioner lawyer Conrado Manicad.

Manicad's petition questioned the jurisdiction of both President Rodrigo Duterte and the SC to decide on the Marcos burial issue.

Voting 9-5-1, the Supreme Court in a ruling dated November 8 dismissed all the petitions seeking to stop the government's plan to bury the late strongman at the heroes' cemetery in Taguig City.

The Marcos family and the military on November 18 surprised the nation after it proceeded with the burial, despite the lack of finality of the SC's decision.

Still pending before the SC are the petitions filed by the human rights violation victims during the Martial law to exhume Marcos' remains at the LNMB. (Sunnex)
