Sereno: No lavish lifestyle for me

“I HAVE always lived a life of modesty.”

That was emphasized by Supreme Court Chief Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno as she downplayed the threat of an impeachment case buildup against her.

“I have been very prudent in the use of the Court’s resources,” Sereno told the panelists during the forum “The CJ Meets the Press” held at the Michael Richartz Hall at the University of San Carlos-Talamban campus yesterday.

SC Associate Justice Teresita Leonardo-de Castro had questioned the travels and allowances of Sereno and her staff in an internal memorandum reportedly sent to her colleagues in the high court.

The groups that want her impeached alleged that Sereno misused the high court’s funds when she reportedly bought a P5-million luxury vehicle.

During the forum, Sereno said that public records showed that she never misused public funds of her office.

“All the travel expenses for judicial reforms, my travels, my security, and vehicle requirements are regular and above board,” said Sereno.
