Sibugay guv focuses on tourism, agriculture

ZAMBOANGA Sibugay Governor Rommel Jalosjos said Monday that his administration will focus on the development of tourism and agriculture to make the province progressive.

He said there are several pristine beaches and alluring isles in Zamboanga Sibugay province that can be developed as tourist destination.

Zamboanga Sibugay, which was created in 2001, consists of 16 towns that include island municipalities that have white sand beaches.

Two of the popular beautiful beaches in the province are Palid and Buluan, both located in the town of Ipil, the province's capital.

Jalosjos said tourism is an income generating industry not only for the government but also for ordinary folks, who can take advantage of a booming tourism industry of a particular place or province.

He said that ordinary folks could earn a living by producing souvenir products including foodstuffs and services needed by the tourists like guides.

Jalosjos said artists like musicians can make use of their talent in entertaining tourists visiting the province.

He noted that Zamboanga Sibugay has also vast resources for agriculture and aquamarine products, which can supply to the demand of restaurants in the metropolis.

He said agriculture sector should be developed by acquiring the needed machineries citing the province's main economy is based on rice and corn milling, food processing, baking, rattan and wood furniture production.

Jalosjos said the major crops produced in province include rice, corn, coconuts, rubber, fruit trees, vegetables, tobacco, coffee, cacao, and root crops. (Bong Garcia)
