Sonsona needs work: Gello-ani

DESPITE the win, Sammy Gello-ani believes that Marvin Sonsona needs a bit of tweaking before moving on to challenge for another world championship.

“Sonsona's performance was unsatisfactory, knowing he can do more than that. The early rounds were impressive but in the latter rounds he faded. I admit that he needed more conditioning and extensive training for him to prepare for more important and competitive fights,” SGG Promotions head Gello-ani, who promotes and manages Sonsona, told Sun.Star Cebu.

The 23-year-old Sonsona avenged his 2010 knockout loss to Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. with a split decision win last Sunday in the undercard of the Miguel Cotto vs. Sergio Martinez fight at the Madison Square Garden in New York.

“For now he will be going home to rest for two or three weeks and he will be back to the training. Possibly he will have another fight before planning to challenge for a world title,” said Gello-ani.

It won’t be hard for Sonsona to get a world title shot because he is highly-rated in all major boxing sanctioning bodies, meaning he has lots of options.
