THE primary suspect in the killing of architect John Riz Fortuna in Davao City surrendered along with his lawyer to Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte on Monday, June 29.

Duterte said he advised the suspect Rosam Giger Jr., an engineer, that he does not need to answer any question since he is wanted by the authorities.

"As a matter of fact, I suggested to Giger to shut his mouth and get a lawyer. Let the lawyer do the talking," Mayor Duterte said in an interview with reporters at the sidelines of the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) held Monday at the Grand Men Seng Hotel.

Duterte said Giger will be placed under the custody of Davao City Police Office (DCPO) Director Vicente D. Danao Jr.

"As a government employee, I am duty bound to give him his rights," Duterte said.

Initial investigation showed that the suspect immediately left after shooting the victim several times. Giger then boarded a tricycle and sped.

The architect was murdered in front of his apartment around 8 a.m. of June 20.

Police recovered from the crime scene eight fired cartridges believed to be from 9mm caliber.

Police said the victim owe P2 million from the suspect. (KRP)
