Talisay seniors: Where are gifts City promised?

THE Office of Senior Citizens’ Affairs (Osca) in Talisay City has asked the City Council to expedite the passage of a measure giving cash incentives to elderly Talisaynons.

OSCA Chief Romeo Tabañag is hoping the council will prioritize the passage of the resolution sponsored by reelectionist Councilor Aaron Capala.

Capala has proposed to give all the senior citizens in Talisay City P1,000 each as a birthday incentive and another P1,000 as a Christmas cash gift.

The 72-year-old Tabañag said there are 9,142 members of the Talisay Federation of Senior Citizens headed by Romeo Martinez, in the city’s 22 barangays.

“If Cebu City can provide cash aid to 54,000 senior citizens, there’s no reason for the Talisay City Government not to do the same for the 9,000 elderly Talisaynons,” said Tabañag, a retired mining firm employee.

The City Government is getting an annual share of more than P250 million as its Internal Revenue Allotment.

Tabañag said he feels sorry for the low-income senior citizens who don’t get pensions.

He also called on senior citizens to immediately report to his office if drugstores and other establishments refuse to honor their discounts. (GC)
