NEGRENSE ladies golfing ace Anya Tanpinco of Bacolod City and Andie Unson matched par 72s to trail leader Putri Chandra of Indonesia at the start of the Thailand Ladies Amateur Open at the Royal Gems Club in Bangkok, Thailand late Monday.

Tanpinco, the former RP back-to-back National ladies amateur champion, mixed three birdies with the same number of bogeys, while Unson, 15, toughened up with two scrambling pars in the last six holes to salvage joint fifth place at the start of the 54-hole tournament featuring the region’s leading amateurs.

Tanpinco is a former Sports Communicators Organization of the Philippines (Scoop) awardee in the annual Scoop Awards for Outstanding Athletes of Negros, a project of Scoop Bacolod Chapter in 2008. (HCV)
