WILL Davao City players regain lost glory or will the 5th Datba Araw ng Dabaw Classic Tenpin Open be another affair for Manila bets?

The moment of truth begins as the annual open event formally rolls of at the NCCC Mall B3 Center Lanes Friday.

While a female player from Manila is defending champion, organizer Davao Tenpin Bowlers Association (Datba) president Virgilio "Billy" Magdale said Davao City players are no pushovers.

"A Dabawenyo had been a champion in the past stagings of the tournament except last year where our player finished runner-up. This is a year where our local players will try to stage a comeback to regain our city's pride," Magdale said.

He said aside from Manila pintopplers, Cavite and Cebu teams are also arriving to give Dabawenyo players a run for their money in this cash-rich tournament supported by Mayor Rodrigo and Vice Mayor Inday Sara Duterte in coordination with the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office.

A whopping cash prize of P30,000 awaits the champion while the runner-up will pocket P20,000. The next two placers will go home with P10,000 and P5,000, respectively. (MLSA)
