Tesda instructor shot dead in Talisay City

A SCHOOL instructor was shot to death by an unidentified man inside a barber shop at Kapitan Sabe, Barangay Zone 12 in Talisay City, Negros Occidental, Monday night.

Police identified the fatality as Elias Redel, 57, who taught courses at the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) Training Center in the said city.

Initial investigation showed that Redel was waiting inside a barber shop around 6:20 p.m. when a gunfire was heard five minutes later.

The barber shop’s cabinet was destroyed when it was hit by the bullet fired by the assailant at the victim, who was reading a newspaper.

Superintendent Adonis Rosales, chief of Talisay City Police Station, said over Bombo Radyo Bacolod that the victim was shot at close range.

Redel succumbed to a lone gunshot wound on his head. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Police recovered at the crime scene a bullet and a fired cartridge of .45 caliber.

Rosales said the victim's activities might have been monitored by the assailant, but they have yet to establish the motive.
