The inauguration

Walter I. Balane

THE invitation said: “The honor of your presence is requested at the inauguration of Alfredo Marañon Jr., Governor of the province of Negros Occidental; Eugenio Jose Lacson, Vice Governor, and the members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, 4 p.m. Tuesday, at the Provincial Capitol, Bacolod City.”

The weather was perfect especially since the attire requested was Barong Tagalog and Filipiniana. On a very hot day, it would be torture, but with the overcast skies and the cool breeze, it was just great. The rains poured after the ceremonies though.

The steps of the Capitol were very well adorned where the ceremonies were conducted.

Before the oath taking ceremonies, a thanksgiving mass was officiated by Most Reverend Bishop Emeritus Vicente Navarra and Most Reverend Bishop Gerry Alminaza, Bishop of the Diocese of San Carlos.

During his inaugural speech, the good Governor thanked the Negrenses for their vote of confidence in giving him once again a three-year term, which will be his last. He gave a brief gains of the past six years, summarizing his Negros First 11-point policy.

One of which is the creation of the Negros Island Region, which he believes is one the highlights of his term.

Present during the inauguration were Senator Franklin Drilon and Negros Oriental Vice Governor Edward Mark Macias.

Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, who is serving his second term, was also sworn in, with mother Menchu by his side.

The new set of Members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan were likewise sworn into office.

Congratulations again to our newly elected officials. We ask God to bless the work of your hands as you serve the people of Negros Occidental.
