Town officials defend Pineda

MABALACAT -- Some local officials in this town have defended former Lilia Pineda who was recently proclaimed as the rightful winner in the gubernatorial race during the 2007 elections.

First Disctict Board Member Tarcicio Halili said that Pineda has maintained humility and calmness despite what he described as “instigation” of Governor Eddie Panlilio’s supporter.

Members of the Kapampangan Kontra Recount (K2R) held Wednesday a protest anew on the Commission on Elections (Comelec) order stating that Pineda is the winner of the 2007 gubernatorial contest.

In the recount, Pineda won by 2,011 votes over Panlilio.

“I admire her calmness despite being provoked by Panlilio’s supporters,” Halili said.

He said political and spiritual leaders should lead by example.

“Inspite of the favorable decision of the Comelec to the Honorable “Nanay Baby Pineda, she did not forced her way into the capitol which is different from other provinces decided upon by the Second Division of the Comelec,” Halili added.

Mabalacat Mayor Marino “Boking” Morales, for his part, said “the people have spoken.”

Morales said the truth and the will of the people have prevailed through the Comelec decision.

Meanwhile, Monsignor Jun Mercado, parish priest of Lourdes Church in nearby Angeles City, said that Pampanga will prosper if Pineda will serve as its governor.
