Typhoon victims build core shelters

KIANGAN, Ifugao -- Beneficiaries of the National Government's core shelter project have started constructing their houses after undergoing a 10-day training/orientation on construction management.

Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Joyce Niwane said 50 beneficiaries from different municipalities who are victims of Typhoon Emong last year are now constructing houses the bayanihan way.

"The training aims to let all the beneficiaries follow the specifications of a typhoon and earthquake-resistant house," she said.

Niwane said the beneficiaries will be awarded with certificate of ownership on March 8, 2010 to coincide with the celebration of Women's Day.

"The counterpart of the beneficiaries is a lot where the house will be built," Niwane said.

She also said the concerns they are facing right now are weather, price of materials especially the cement which is increasing, and the availability of construction materials. (Vency D. Bulayungan)
