MANILA -- Students from the University of the Philippines (UP) will hold a six-day system-wide online mock elections starting Thursday to know the general sentiment of the student community before they hit the summer break.

Organized by the Student Alliance for the Advancement of Democratic Rights in UP (STAND-UP) in partnership with the UP Linux User’s Group (UNPLUG) and the National Union of Students of the Philippines (NUSP), the exercise will serve as the voice of the 65,000-strong UP students in the upcoming elections.

Incoming University Student Council (USC) Chairperson Rainier Sindayen said he is expecting a 60-percent turnout of the 22,000 student population at the flagship campus in Diliman. The UP System has 65,000 students this academic year.

The results of the online voting will be revealed on March 24 (Wednesday). (Virgil Lopez/Sunnex)
