A VILLAGE official, who recently joined the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), was killed, while his son escaped unscathed in a gun attack in Basilan, the police reported Friday, January 19.

Superintendent Restituto Pangusban, Isabela City police chief, identified the victim as Kaddam Ismael, 61.

Pangusban said Ismael was shot and killed around 6:10 p.m. Thursday along the highway in the village of Lumbang, Isabela City.

Investigation showed Ismael was onboard a motorcycle driven by his son on the way home when shot by one of two men riding-tandem on another motorcycle. The gunmen tailed them.

Ismael has just arrived from Manila, as he was among the 40 village chiefs of Isabela City who took oath on January 17 as member of the PDP-Laban before House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez.

Pangusban said the gunmen sped toward Maluso town.

Ismael is the village chief of Kapayawan, Isabela City, Basilan.
