IT IS love month. Valentine’s Day is just around the corner.

Couples are busy making plans. Restaurants and flower shops are also busy taking orders and reservations. They are looking forward to the day of hearts.

Love is a feeling that everyone experiences. It is an intense feeling of deep affection.

So...where do broken hearts go and the single ones?

There are many forms of love. It is not just about romantic love. There is love between friends, siblings, parent and child, a mentor and mentee, teacher and student and also a love for our God.

Valentine’s Day is for everyone. Incidentally, it is also Ash Wednesday.

Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent for Roman Catholics. It is a day of fasting. Lent is a season of reflection and preparation before the celebrations of Easter.

Catholics recall that Jesus went to the dessert to pray and fast. This is the time when we show our love and appreciation for Jesus who suffered for us. This is the time when we try to be like him.

Jesus tells us to love our neighbor. This Valentine’s Day is the best time to start showing our love for others.

Lent asks Catholics to pray more, fast and be more generous to the poor or the disadvantaged.

There are people who need love like children who were abandoned, neglected, orphaned, and abused (physically, emotionally and sexually). There are people who are sick and no one cares that they are dying. The older persons are placed in a home. There are those people who paid mistakes, who broke the law and lost their freedom. They need you all to love them.

Visit them. Show them that you care. Pray for them. Give hope. Bring joy. Spread love.
