AN OIL Spill Response Exercise was conducted Tuesday, November 29, by the Wise Philippines, Malayan Towage and Salvage Corporation, and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)-Davao in Sta. Ana pier, Davao City.

Personnel of the PCG, Maritime Police, and officials from other big oil companies educated the participants on how to properly respond in a boat accident that results into an oil spill.

The Waterborne Industry Oil Spill Equipment (Wise) and the Coastguard District Command has Tier spill for their Oil Spill Contingency Plan.

"Meron tayong mga contingency plans in case sa mga emergencies, merontayong coast guard vessels (We have contingency plans in cases of emergency. We have coast guard vessels)," said Captain Oscar Endona Jr., PCG (GSC), commander of PCG District Southern Mindanao.

Wise also added that this aimed to know whether the equipment’s or tools used in responding to oil spill incidents are still of better condition including the responders themselves.

"The WISE have their own equipment. These exercises are among the ways of checking kung okay pa ba yung equipment nila and whether the people are well-trained (if their equipment is okay)," the official said.
