The Groshery’s Fried Halo-halo

Charlene A. Cayabyab

YOU know when it’s summer when you see the season’s favorite treat: halo-halo.

Halo-halo is a layered dessert of sweetened beans, fruits, and shaved ice drizzled with evaporated milk, and topped with either leche flan or ice cream. It’s the best meryenda to beat the heat!

In Pampanga, the ultimate Pinoy summer treat got a twist.

Rosh Guevarra-Eusebio of The gROSHery fried the halo-halo.

Guevarra-Eusebio’s Fried Halo-Halo has the same ingredients with the typical halo-halo: ube, macapuno, banana, white beans, nata de coco, minus the shaved ice which is substituted with either vanilla ice cream or fudge dip.

“The Fried Halo-Halo is the perfect sequel to The gROSHery’s lineup of wrapped goodies — Baked Sushi (wrapped in nori sheet), Spring ROLLsh Eat-It-Your-Way (wrapped in rice paper), Baked ROSHawarma (wrapped in shawarma wraps). This time, we’re offering a delectable dessert wrapped in lumpia wrapper,” Guevarra-Eusebio shared.

The fried halo-halo was a shared concept between Guevarra-Eusebio, and her friends.

“Everything is handmade and homemade. Rest assured that we use only the best and quality ingredients for our clients,” she assured.

Fried halo-halo prices start at P99.

Due to the increasing demand for her creation, Guevarra-Eusebio has introduced “Ready-to-Fry Halo-Halo,” a pre-wrapped halo-halo which customers can fry anytime they feel like having it.

The “Ready-to-Fry Halo-Halo” comes in tubs with cooking instructions on how to fry them.

“The good thing is, a tub wouldn’t go bad for weeks when stored properly inside the freezer. This is such a perfect idea whenever you want something new for your merienda!” Guevarra-Eusebio said.
