AT LEAST 21 people were injured in a road accident that transpired along Jose Abad Santos Avenue in Barangay Dolores in the City of San Fernando past 6 a.m. Thursday, September 26.

San Fernando Rescue Unit head Raymond del Rosario, whose staff immediately responded to the scene, said one trailer truck, a passenger jeepney and a motorcycle were involved in the incident.

"Twenty-one victims were hurt in the accident, two of them sustained major injuries -- the motorcycle driver and a passenger of the jeepney -- while the rest only had minor injuries. All were immediately brought to the Jose B. Lingad Memorial Regional Hospital for proper treatment," Del Rosario said.

Meanwhile, the city chief of police, Lieutenant Colonel Paul Gamido, said the truck driver fell asleep while driving, resulting in him losing control of the vehicle.

"The truck, which was on the northbound lane of Jose Abad Santos Avenue, suddenly counterflowed and rammed the incoming vehicles and crashed into an electric post. The motorcycle was directly hit during the incident while passenger jeepney flipped over," he said.

Gamido said the truck driver, whose identity was not disclosed for security purposes, was already in police custody while the investigation is ongoing.
