UNLIKE its other outreach activities benefiting its host communities, the latest outreach program of Real Steel Corporation benefited its own employees through a medical and dental mission held inside the plant on Thursday morning, July 26.

According to Real Steel Corporation safety and health officer Glenn Diwa, the medical and dental mission organized by the plant management is a special activity aimed at ensuring the health of its personnel.

“We have been conducting activities that are intended for our Simonian family as our way of giving back. But today, we believe that it is high time that we look after our own family. Although it is already usual to care for each other here, today is extra special because we invited medical experts to look after their health,” Diwa said.

She noted that almost 500 employees enjoyed free medical and dental services such as consultation, eye check-up, tooth extraction, medicine supplies, among others.

Operations employee Noridel Mandagauio, 19, who is suffering from a second degree burn after accidentally swiping his thigh on a burning furnace, got the chance to have his follow-up check up and received free ointments to heal his wound.

“This is a big help for me because I really don’t have the resources to continue the medication of my wound. Hopefully with this help, my wound will heal soon so I can immediately get back to work,” he said.

Mandagauio also expressed his gratitude to his employer for the free medical assistance extended to him, apart from immediately bringing him to the hospital during the accident.

“Real Steel Corporation is committed in ensuring the safety of all its employees and this medical and dental mission is a manifestation of it,” Diwa said.

Former mayor Rodrigo “Digos” Canlas, who graced the medical and dental mission, lauded the efforts of the smelting plant management for sustaining its corporate social responsibility activities that benefit not only its employees but also the residents of San Simon town.

“The assistance extended by Real Steel to every Simonian is very much appreciated. As a former worker, I appreciate and see the value of assistance they are giving, especially that it concerns health,” he said.

Canlas also expressed his hope that other companies and investors in San Simon will emulate the activities conducted by Real Steel Corporation.
