CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) recently led a cleanup drive at the Quebiawan creek and has collected some 70 sacks of solid waste.

The DENR said the sacks weighed over 2,000 kilos and were mostly made up of single-use plastics, diapers and other household garbage.

The wastes were collected by some 100 employees of the DENR during the cleanup of Quebiawan creek in an effort to protect and save Manila Bay.

Quebiawan creek is connected to the San Fernando and San Matias Rivers that drain to Manila Bay.

Since the Manila Bay rehabilitation program started, the DENR has conducted a total of 325 cleanup drives in Bulacan, Pampanga and Bataan and has collected more than 400,000 kilograms of wastes.

The rehabilitation of the 190-kilometer stretch of Manila Bay covers the regions of Calabarzon, National Capital Region and Central Luzon. Of this, 144 kilometers or merely two-thirds of the total stretch is part of Central Luzon.
