THE number of active coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases in Candaba town has started to decline.

From the over record-high 202 active cases recorded on April 19, it has dropped to 111 active cases, as of Thursday, April 29.

On the same day alone, 20 new recoveries, including four senior citizens, were reported by the Municipal Health Office.

The number of new cases reported each day has also decreased to about 10 cases per day from the record-high 51 fresh cases logged on April 15.

Mayor Rene Maglanque said most of the cases are workers or those with travel history outside the town and have infected family members.

"The surge in cases can also be attributed to strict contact tracing measures we are conducting to ensure that all positive patients, symptomatic or not, will be accounted for and immediately isolated," he said.

Meanwhile, Maglanque said the local government is stepping up its protocols on isolating Covid-19 positive patients.

He said they all asymptomatic patients will be quarantined at the Municipal Isolation Area in Barangay Salapungan instead of home quarantine.

Those with mild symptoms will be transferred to Municipal Infirmary in Barangay Pasig to ensure immediate health care attention if needed, the mayor added.

He said, however, that those in severe condition must be admitted to bigger hospitals to get proper medical care and equipment.

"While we are in the process of vaccinating the people, we continue to ensure that the virus will be contained through stringent health and security measures," Maglanque said.
