AN ALCOHOL plant operating in Apalit town, Pampanga recently received recognition from the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) for its eco-friendly practice.

Far East Alcohol Corporation (FEAC), located in Barangay Sulipan here, bagged the "Outstanding Practice in Biogas Digester Operations" award during the recent Environmental Recognition of Outstanding Local Government Units and Industries held in the City of San Fernando.

Biogas digester, also known as anaerobic digester, is a system used to ferment or break down organic matter from animals, plants or sewage to produce biogas.

"In support of Department of Energy's (DOE's) waste to energy, FEAC produces up to 2.4-megawatt energy by treating distillery waste," the citation read.

EMB also lauded FEAC for being the first company to construct a state-of-the-art waste-to-water treatment facility using renowned Belgium technology.

It also recognized the company as being one of the twelve bioethanol producers in the country registered under DOE.

FEAC's Pollution Control Officer Mercy Simon, who received the recognition, expressed gratitude to EMB for recognizing their company's efforts to preserve the environment.

She said the award is a milestone on FEAC's journey of serving its clientele and the community, while also protecting Mother Earth.
