Angeles City execs express support for Anti-Terrorism Bill

ANGELES CITY -- Officials in this highly urbanized city has expressed support for the Anti-Terrorism Law, which was signed by President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday, July 3, 2020.

Members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod here unanimously approved Resolution No. 9025, Series of 2020 (PR- 600-06-20) entitled Resolution Supporting The Anti-Terrorism Bill, now The Anti-Terrorism Law.

The resolution was sponsored by Councilors Joseph "PG" Ponce, Danilo Lacson, Arvin "Pogs" Suller, Joseph Alfie Bonifacio and Marino Banola.

It was seconded by Councilors Jesus Sangil, Raco Del Rosario, Jeremias Alrjandrino and Arnoah Prince "DG" Mandani.

The resolution was approved by Vice Mayor Vicky Vega- Cabigting, presiding officer attested by City Secretary Mark Philip Lumboy.

The law will take effect 15 days after its publication.

The Philippine Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020, which amends the 2007 Human Security Act, expands the definition of terrorism.

It permits the surveillance, warrantless arrest and detention of suspects for up to 24 days, according to the draft law.

Ponce said the Anti-Terrorism Law "will end all forms of terrorism in the country."
