THE Angeles City Government is set to hold a dog and cat adoption event on Friday, March 29, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the Animal Shelter and Dog Pound at the City Hall.

The event marks the city’s celebration of the National Rabies Awareness Month themed, "Makiisa sa Barangayan Kontra Rabies, Maging Responsableng Pet Owner" which was launched last March 25.

City Veterinarian Mario Samson said the program aims to promote animal welfare by providing new homes for abandoned animals. The rescued animals that are to be adopted are under the custody of the city government, and are being maintained and taken good care of in partnership with the International Wildlife Coalition (IWCT).

No adoption fee will be charged during the event.

The city government will also provide medical check-ups, free anti-rabies vaccines, and free dog and cat supplies and services at the venue.

“We have been keen in our vision of making Angeles City an animal-friendly and a rabies-free city. Our event will also provide an avenue for pet-lovers to gain insights and experiences from patrons and adoptive parents of stray animals as regard to the process of adoption and responsible pet ownership,” said Samson.

Meanwhile, Angeles City Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan urged Angeleño pet owners to avail of the free anti-rabies program of the city lobbied by the CVO for free.

Records of the CVO showed that the city government immunized more than 23,000 cats and dogs last year. The target for this year is 25,000.

To date, the office has already covered seven barangays and will pursue the remaining barangays until April. (PR)
