Angeles City to implement pay-parking ordinance

THE 17th Sangguniang Panlungsod (City Council) in Angeles City, led by Vice Mayor Bryan Matthew Nepomuceno, has approved the implementation of the “On Street Pay-Parking Project,” an ordinance created to eliminate traffic congestion in the city.

The Angeles City Traffic Management Board (ACTMB) presented the project as a comprehensive scheme to facilitate smooth traffic flow amid limited road spaces and influx of motor vehicles and pedestrian in designated streets and thoroughfares.

As part of the city’s Traffic Control and Development, parking attendants will monitor designated areas on a 12-hour schedule, from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., while an extension of up to 10:00 p.m. may be implemented if needed in some parking areas.

Parking fees will be collected on an hourly basis, with a maximum of four hours per parking. The amount will also vary with the kind of vehicle parked.

Fees for motorcycles, tricycles, pedicabs and calesas will start at P10 for the first hour with P5 for each additional hour; cars, jeepneys, SUVs and AUVs will start at P20 for the first hour with P10 for an additional hour; vans and delivery trucks will start at P40 for the first hour with P20 for an additional hour; 10-wheeler trucks and heavy equipment will start at P60 for the first hour with P30 for an additional hour.

Some key areas may also be designated as strictly “no parking zones” in consideration of their traffic landscape.

All vehicles that fail to comply with the regulations will be considered illegally parked.

As penalty, these vehicles shall be towed or impounded with a fee of P1,500.

Exempted from the ordinance are senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs), who may park for free for two hours.

For the pilot implementation, parking fees will be applied in designated streets along Mon Tang Avenue.

The ordinance is sponsored by Councilor Amos Rivera, head of the Sangguniang Panlungsod committee on transportation and public utilities. The ordinance was unanimously approved by the city council. (PR)
