CITY OF SAN FERNANDO Pampanga Governor mi Dennis “Delta” Pineda repeated his call to cargo operators and haulers to comply with the limits on overloaded trucks.

The governor reiterated his warning to truckers

in a bid to protect the Candaba viaduct of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and other road networks in the province from further damage.

Pineda made this appeal in a recent meeting with truck operators, haulers and representatives from the NLEX.

Some roads in Pampanga are being used as alternate routes as the North Luzon Expressway Corporation enforced the 33-ton weight limit along the Candaba Viaduct since August 1 while the tollway firm is implementing road repair projects.

On August 2, 2022, the governor suspended quarry operations in the province for 15 days.

Truckers and haulers have voluntarily cut the sidings of their trucks to comply with the 33-ton weight limit imposed by NLEX on Candaba Viaduct.

As of August 9, at least 1,000 trucks have been cut to the heights and lengths allowed per vehicle category, according to Kapampangan a Lulugud at Matapat, the province’s monitoring arm on quarry operations.

During a recent meeting, the governor asked NLEX Corporation to deploy additional personnel to enforce the law.

“We should all protect the Candaba Viaduct including national roads and bridges,” Governor Pineda said, echoing his message in a meeting with officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways and Department of the Interior and Local Government on Dec. 5.

An incident in Bayambang town in Pangasinan last October pointed out how overloaded trucks could damage vital infrastructures like bridges.
