Arroyo to seek fresh congressional term

FORMER president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has accepted the nomination of the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) as its congressional candidate in the Second District of Pampanga as she eyes a comeback to the House of Representatives via the 2022 polls.

According to Integrated Bar of the Philippines-Central Luzon Governor lawyer Paul Maglalang, who represented Arroyo in the filing of the certificate of candidacy on Friday, October 1, the former president seeks the House seat and a fresh congressional term to be able to help Kapampangans and the country as a whole.

"Gusto niyang bumalik para makagawa muli ng mga batas na makakatulong sa bansa. She is healthy and in good condition but she just taking safety precautions that is why we represented her in the filing of the certificate of candidacy," he said.

Arroyo is president-emeritus of Lakas-CMD, the party that nominated her.

Arroyo became the country’s first female speaker of the House from 2018 to 2019, replacing then-speaker Pantaleon Alvarez. She also served three consecutive terms as representative of the Second District of Pampanga from 2010 to 2013, 2013 to 2016, and 2016 to 2019.

Arroyo became the Philippines’ second female president from 2001 to 2010 and the country’s first female vice president from 1998 to 2001.
