A COOKING competition will be held in Bataan during July’s Nutrition Month celebration to highlight backyard gardening.

Contestants include barangay nutrition scholars and barangay health workers from the different towns and city of the province.

Provincial Health Office head Rosanna Buccahan said the objective of the contest is to contribute in lowering the prevalence of malnutrition among children.

“In the cooking contest, we will promote backyard gardening by showing that vegetables planted in backyard can be a cheap source of nutritious food,” Buccahan added.

The grand winner will receive a certificate and P10,000 cash while the second and third placers will receive P8,000 and P6,000 cash, respectively.

“With this, we want to encourage the public to plant and harvest vegetables in their own backyard to achieve healthier lifestyle and to combat malnutrition especially among the children,” Buccahan added.

This year’s celebration is anchored on the theme “Ugaliing magtanim, Sapat na nutrisyon aanihin.” (Mar Jay S. Delas Alas, PIA-3)

THREAT. According to a Capitol consultant, the Cebu City Government is threatening to shut down the Cebu North Bus Terminal at the back of SM City Cebu (left) and the Cebu South Bus Terminal along N. Bacalso Ave. for operating without a business permit. The Province, which runs both terminals, maintains that it operates the facilities as a public service for passengers going to the province and vice versa. /
