DESPITE the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine in place, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Region III continues its dispersal of tilapia fingerlings in Central Luzon waters.

As of Tuesday, BFAR-Central Luzon director Wilfredo Cruz said a total of 820,000 tilapia fingerlings were already dispersed since the lockdown was implemented.

Cruz said although food supply is stable in the region, the back-up plan is still essential to ensure continuous food security amid the health crisis brought about by the virus pandemic.

“As a coping strategy, BFAR Central Luzon carries on with activities such as these to ensure that there is a steady fish supply for the region,” he said.

He added that marketing assistance and logistical support are also provided to make sure that food supply reaches the consumers without delay.

“Our commitment is to give the people unhampered access to the food they need and in the absence of traders, we must take the lead,” Cruz said.
