CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) in Central Luzon has warned the public against harvesting and eating shellfish from some towns in Bataan province.

BFAR Central Luzon Director Wilfredo Cruz said shellfish samples collected from the coastal waters of Orani, Hermosa, Mariveles, Limay, Orion, Pilar, Balanga, Samal and Abucay were tested positive for palaralytic shellfish poison (PSP).

Cruz advised the public to refrain from eating, gathering, harvesting, transporting, and marketing of shellfish and "alamang" from the affected towns "until such time that the toxicity level has gone below the regulatory limit."

The regional office is continuously monitoring the situation to safeguard public health and to protect the fishery industry. (With Princess Clea Arcellaz)
