Bulacan farmers get seeds through digital technology

Ian Ocampo Flora

MORE than 600 farmers from San Miguel town in Bulacan are the first recipients of seeds with the help of digital technology, according to the Department of Agriculture (DA) in Central Luzon.

Up to 4,550 sacks of certified seeds of NSIC Rc 480, Rc 402, Rc 22, Rc 222 and Rc 160 are expected to be distributed to farmers in San Miguel using Binhi e-padala, a new system that simplifies the process of obtaining free seed from the RCEF Seed Program.

Under the new system, eligible RCEF-Seed Program beneficiaries will receive a text through short messaging system (SMS).

The SMS contains the claim code to get the seed, pick-up point, day of distribution, and the quantity of seed sack available to the farmer.

Seed e-shipment was started in the 2020 for the wet cropping season in Nueva Ecija and Tarlac.
