HUNDREDS of college students from Candaba town recently received financial assitance from the local government.

A total of 640 students enrolled in different colleges were given P5,400 cash grants under the municipality's scholarship program.

Mayor Rene Maglanque said the recipients are part of the total more than 3,000 scholars of the local government who regularly receive financial assistance from the local government.

"We allocated some P16 million to assist Candabeño students finish their tertiary education. Some of which receive cash while those enrolled in Don Honorio Ventura State University Candaba campus received tablets, uniform and some cash," he said.

In his speech, Maglanque urged the students to study well and use the assistance as an inspiration to finish their schooling.

He said the local government pours in all possible assistance to ensure that their schooling will not be affected, even despite the ongoing pandemic when resources should be focused on its response.

"We in the local government try to provide all possible assistance we can provide so it is now up to you to do your part. Strive harder so you can have a better future," he said.

Department of the Interior and Local Government Undersecretary Martin Diño, who also graced the activity, lauded the efforts of the local government in assisting the education sector.

"The students and parents are really very lucky to have a local government that value the education sector. Just like what Mayor Maglanque said, it is really a sin if not one in the family finishes his or her studies," he said.
