Central Luzon disaster agency downgrades alert

FOLLOWING the improvement in the weather, the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) downgraded its alert status from “blue” to “white” effective Monday, August 12.

A memorandum signed by RDDRMC-3 Chairperson and Office of Civil Defense III (OCD-3) Director Marlou Salazar instructs all concerned government agencies to submit terminal reports for proper accounting.

“All concerned agencies except those still monitoring the damages caused by southwest monsoon enhanced by typhoon ‘Hanna’, if any, are requested to submit their respective terminal reports to OCD-3,” the memorandum read.

Meanwhile, RDDRMC-3 reminded government agencies, especially disaster mitigation frontliners, to continue monitoring their respective areas to ensure the safety of constituents from any eventuality.

This, as several weather disturbances, about five to 14 until the end of the year as reported by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, and rains brought about by the southwest monsoon, are still expected to hit the country.

THREAT. According to a Capitol consultant, the Cebu City Government is threatening to shut down the Cebu North Bus Terminal at the back of SM City Cebu (left) and the Cebu South Bus Terminal along N. Bacalso Ave. for operating without a business permit. The Province, which runs both terminals, maintains that it operates the facilities as a public service for passengers going to the province and vice versa. /
