AGRICULTURE workers in Central Luzon were given tribute during the Farmers and Fisherfolk Month celebration led by Department of Agriculture (DA).

With the theme “Pagpupugay sa Magsasaka at Mangingisda Natin, Tungo sa Sapat na Pagkain”, the activity primarily aims to acknowledge the contribution of farmers and fisherfolks as the unsung heroes of the agriculture sector.

“Further, this is meant to create awareness on the programs on ensuring food security and resiliency; advocate policy support to agri-fishery interventions in the pipeline; and massively promote the implementation of the Plant Plant Plant Program,” DA regional executive director Crispulo Bautista Jr. said.

He also mentioned the Rice Resiliency Project, which will help achieve this year’s target rice production of the country.

Part of the activity is the distribution of seeds and seedlings to different local government units as part of the “Ahon Lahat, Pagkaing Sapat kontra sa Covid-19” program.

Danilo Pineda from the City of San Fernando expressed his thanks for the seedlings acquired.

“These will be distributed to our constituents as a way of promoting home and urban gardening in the city,” Pineda said.

A Kadiwa ni Ani at Kita fair was also held as part of the celebration. (PIA-Central Luzon)
