Nicole Renee David

THE City Government of San Fernando signed a memorandum of agreement with Pampanga State Agricultural University and the Department of Science and Technology-Pampanga Provincial Office for the acquisition and installation of a biogas digester for the city on Monday, November 19.

The biogas digester technology is a waste management tool and energy generation technology that uses locally available materials and an environment-friendly alternative.

Santiago said that the technology will greatly help the city in its solid waste management program.

“With the technology, we can reduce the residuals we send to the Kalangitan landfill. This means reduced cost for the city in its solid waste management and is also a boost to our recycling efforts,” he said.

Under the agreement, the groups will undertake inspection, biogas design, consultancy and technical supervision on the construction, orientation on proper operations and maintenance and time to time monitoring of the biogas digester.

THREAT. According to a Capitol consultant, the Cebu City Government is threatening to shut down the Cebu North Bus Terminal at the back of SM City Cebu (left) and the Cebu South Bus Terminal along N. Bacalso Ave. for operating without a business permit. The Province, which runs both terminals, maintains that it operates the facilities as a public service for passengers going to the province and vice versa. /
